  New Journal Request:

a. The requesting faculty must complete a PERIODICAL SUBSCRIPTION REQUEST FORM,
attach a sample issue of the requested new journal, and submit the request to their Divisional Library Representative.
b. The Divisional Library Representative reviews and signs the request form.
c. All new periodical requests must be submitted to the Library by the end of the Spring Semester, or before May 15.
d. Periodicals Librarian checks the library holdings, and availability of title on electronic databases to avoid duplicate subscription, verifies the title and other info on Ulrich's Periodicals Directory, andthen compile a list of proposed new journal requests for the Library Director for approval.
e. The Library Director reviews the request(s), the availability of funds, and makes the final
decision.
f. The Periodicals Librarian prepares and submits new subscription(s)/ renewals to subscription service agencies by September 15.
g. The Library Director notifies and provides the Library Committee members with a list of new
periodical titles that are added or cancelled. All new additions/cancellations will be effective the following calendar year.
h. The Periodicals Librarian creates purchase orders for the following year on the DRA Acquisition subsystem, adding new journal titles, assigning HEGIS number/fund code.
i. When the invoices arrive, the Periodicals Librarian verifies changes and all titles on the invoice before payment is authorized.
j. The Library Bookkeeper enters the subscription and other associated costs for each journal into the Acquisitions subsystem.
k. The Periodicals Librarian also creates a brief, temporary record in the Serials Subsystem.
l. When the new journal arrives, the Periodicals Librarian forwards the new journal to the Cataloger for cataloging and to upload a MARC record to overlay the temporary record in the Serials Subsystem.
m. The Periodicals Librarian creates new check-in record, and claim profile in the DRA Serials subsystem.
n. The Periodicals Librarian then forwards the information to the Library Technician to add/update the New Jersey Union List of Serials on OCLC.
o. She also updates the information on the Periodicals Holdings List.
p. The Periodicals staff will make room on the display shelves to accommodate the new journal, and will make a new label for it.
