  The Mission of the Periodicals Department:

To provide facility, services, and access to information in print, microform and electronic format to our students, faculty and staff of the college.
-The Library Mission, July 1999


Goals:

1. To maintain the library's active subscriptions to periodicals in print, microforms and in e-journals

a. To renew or cancel periodical subscriptions by September of each year.
b. To monitor payments and credit refunds online on the DRA acquisition sub-system.
c. To activate online access to electronic journals.
d. To maintain and keep record on all licensing agreements.
e. To create and maintain listings for electronic journals by titles and by publishers/vendors.
f. To create and maintain accurate check-in records for periodicals on the online DRA serials sub-system.
g. To create, update and maintain accurate records on the NJ Union List of Serials.


2. To preserve all periodicals, both active and inactive, for the periods determined by the library policy.

a. To preserve print subscriptions by preparing issues to be sent for binding.
b. To preserve selected print titles backfiles in microformats.
c. To weed and discard periodicals according to the established schedule.


3. To make the library's periodicals available for use by Stockton faculty, staff and students at all hours when the library is open.

a. To receive, process and make available for use all new periodical issues as quickly as possible.
b. To prevent gaps in active periodical subscriptions by claiming missing issues in a timely manner.
c. To service microform readers/printers and other equipment regularly so they are in good working condition.


4. To facilitate use of the library's periodicals by maintaining good order and convenient arrangement in the periodicals collections.

a. To re-shelve all journals as soon as possible.
b. To check periodicals shelves regularly to ensure issues are in proper places.
c. To make clear labels on the shelves to enable easy retrieval of periodicals.
d. To make clear signs to direct users to the appropriate location for periodicals and services.
e. To generate an accurate Periodicals Holding List annually to help users to Identify and locate periodicals titles.
