Statistics: The periodicals usage statistics plays an important part in deciding canceling journal titles. Once the faculty recommend a journal title for canceling, the usage statistics will be consulted. If high usage is shown for the title, it will not be cancelled. In addition, during hard budget time, when we must cancel journal subscriptions to save money, we tend to scrutinize the usage statistics for titles that consistently showing extremely low usage. Although many may argue that the statistics are not accurate. Many users claimed they personally re-shelved the journals after using them. Nonetheless, it is still the only barometer to measure usage. a. Daily The staff at the Information Desk is responsible for recording the titles of journals used. Every hour, the staff will come into the Periodicals room, go around the tables and gather all the issues read and left by the users. Check the microform return box for microfiche and microfilm. No distinction is made between micro or print titles. Record the titles and the number of issues on the Daily Statistics Usage Form. After statistics are taken, file or re-shelve the journals. The Periodicals
staff collects the daily statistics from the previous day and keeps
in a binder. c. Annual |
